Water Treatment Answers is a free service that connects homeowners with local water treatment and filtration companies. We are not a water-treatment company or installer, and we do not perform the work ourselves.

The short answer

Lead is a health-related contaminant, so look for a filter certified to NSF/ANSI 53 or 58 for lead reduction, not just taste and odor. Reverse-osmosis systems and certain carbon-block filters are common choices. Lead usually enters from old service lines or plumbing, so point-of-use filters at drinking taps are the typical fix.
