Florida at a glance

In Florida, public water systems are regulated by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) under the federal Safe Drinking Water Act, and utilities must publish an annual water-quality report. Much of Florida's water is drawn from limestone (Floridan) aquifers, so groundwater is often naturally hard, and many rural homes rely on private wells. Private wells are not covered by those federal rules, so the EPA and CDC recommend testing your own water at least once a year. Match a filter, softener, or reverse-osmosis system to what your test shows.
