Water Treatment Answers is a free service that connects homeowners with local water treatment and filtration companies. We are not a water-treatment company or installer, and we do not perform the work ourselves.
In South Carolina, public water systems are regulated by South Carolina's state environmental and public-health agencies under the federal Safe Drinking Water Act, and utilities must publish an annual water-quality report. Coastal and Lowcountry groundwater can carry salt and iron, while inland wells vary in hardness. Private wells are not covered by those federal rules, so the EPA and CDC recommend testing your own water at least once a year. Match a filter, softener, or reverse-osmosis system to what your test shows.
