Kentucky at a glance

In Kentucky, public water systems are regulated by the Kentucky Division of Water under the federal Safe Drinking Water Act, and utilities must publish an annual water-quality report. Karst limestone geology across much of Kentucky tends to produce hard groundwater, and surface water can carry sediment after heavy rain. Private wells are not covered by those federal rules, so the EPA and CDC recommend testing your own water at least once a year. Match a filter, softener, or reverse-osmosis system to what your test shows.
